Somehow Rob and I ended up in Hampi – the driest town going – for New Year’s Eve. It’s a wonderfully crazy place full to the brim with boulders and temples – but with not much going on past 7pm unless you have a drum and some hippy sensibilities.
Turns out we’d accidentally smuggled some illicit gin into town, so like naughty teenagers we bought ourselves some cans of bitter lemon and went back to our hotel. We ended up lying in bed under our mosquito net watching Octopussy, looking out for the scenes set in Udaipur, and enjoying the rickshaw car chase (which was not unlike real life).
I was asleep before midnight. Rock ‘n’ Roll!
The next morning we found the streets covered in these pretty chalk decorations wishing everyone a Happy New Year. Nice!
